On Writing

A Little Encouragement

I’m working on my third and fourth novel now, and I recently went back and edited my first. Holy wow. My writing had changed so much since I first started taking this fiction writing plunge a year ago.

My first drafts are now coming out better than my second and third drafts and even fourth drafts of my first novel.

What I’m trying to say is keep at it! Writing may be an innate talent to a certain extent, but it is also a skill, and don’t discount the value of practicing. You get what you put in.

Now, after several revisions and torturing myself, and changing a million things on my first novel, I’m finally beginning to query it as I edit book two and work on book three and another side novel. So I’m dong a lot, and feeling pretty good, (other than the occasional crippling bout of self-doubt.)

Keeping up on blog posts is another story. Oy. Hopefully with practice, I’ll improve at this too.

It would help if all the short stories that I write for this blog would stop taking on a life of their own and turning into novels, but that’s a post for a different time.

Happy writing!
