I’ve been feeling a little down… okay a lot down since Covid-19 started ravaging the world. My family has been isolated for a little over three weeks, and I thought the biggest upside to that would be that I would get a lot of writing done. But alas, I instead felt my mind zapped and my inspiration in the gutter.
But then Camp Nanowrimo appeared.
I’ve written about my experience with Nanowrimo before. It really lit a fire under me last November, so I thought it would do the same this time. Plus, it offers something to do instead of reading the news and feeling constant existential dread.
I set a reasonable goal for myself of adding 30,000 words to my WIP. I’m working on the third book of my fantasy trilogy and I’m hoping to get it 75% done by the end of April. (I’m expecting it to be about 95,000 words, give or take). I’ve even got a few new writer friends doing it with me, which adds another layer of accountability.
So far it’s going well. I’ve averaged my 1000 words a day and it has inspired to go back and edit my first two books again. I’m also putting together a new idea for a stand-alone nautical adventure fantasy.
Thanks for the jump-start, Nanowrimo!
